這個英文小錯誤你覺得沒什麼,Native Speakers聽著卻非常彆扭
聽栗子講 :)
Jimmy: Hey Stacey。 Did you get my message?
Stacey: No。 When did you send it?
Jimmy: Last night around midnight。 I guess that‘s why you didn’t reply me。
Stacey: It should be “reply to me”。
Jimmy: Thanks, grammar police!
Hello E-Speller friends!
This is a common error I hear from my friends。
When “reply” has an object (someone or something that receives the action), the verb becomes “reply to”。
I know it is confusing because “reply” can be a transitive verb (verb that needs an object) or intransitive (doesn‘t need an object) verb。
Here are some examples:
Transitive
Please reply to my invitation。
“Did you reply to me?” she asked。
Intransitive
Please reply soon。
“Yes,” he replied。
So if there is a person or thing mentioned after “reply”, remember to use “to” after “reply”。
Will you reply TO this article?
Goodbye E-Speller friends。
Until next time!
