SUPERNOVA 1945B IN NGC 5236 IBVS 3497 notes the discovery by W。 Liller on plates taken at what was then Harvard‘s station in Bloemfontein of a supernova 97“ west and 175” south of the nucleus of NGC 5236 = M83。 First detected at B = 14。2 on 1945 July 13。9， it was followed to Aug。 7。9。 Supernovae 1923A， 1950B， 1957D， 1968L， and 1983N also occurred in this galaxy。
