有錢能使鬼推磨，錢的重要性不言而喻。正是因為錢的重要性，追求財富幾乎成了每個人奮鬥的目標，但是有的人成為金錢的奴隸，為了錢不擇手段，甚至做出觸犯法律的事情。君子愛財，取之有道，用之有度，這樣的財富才是”健康“的財富。

在英語“富裕”常用單詞 rich 或 wealthy 來表示，也就是擁有很多的錢，這兩個單詞無實質性差別，只是 rich 更常用，特別是一些固定短語中，例如：

rich:

They‘re one of the world’s richest nations。

他們是世界上最富有的國家之一。

He is determined to get rich quickly。

他決心迅速致富。

wealthy:

They live in a wealthy suburb of Chicago。

他們住在芝加哥郊區的一處富人區。

With their natural resources they are potentially a very wealthy country。

憑藉其自然資源，他們有潛在可能成為一個非常富裕的國家。

在固定搭配 stinking/filthy rich 或 the rich and famous 等中只用 rich，不用 wealthy.

複合形容詞 well-to-do 也是富裕的意思，它的同義詞是 rich 和 wealthy，且經常跟 quite 連用，例如：

I was not born in well-to-do family， but I worked really hard to reach this level。

我出生在一個不富裕的家庭，但我真的很努力達到這個水平。

He was a quite well-to-do business man but left everything and becomes a Buddhist monk。

他是一個相當富裕的商人，但放棄了一切，現在成為一個佛教僧侶。

There is a gentleman waiting for you at the door。 He appears quite well-to-do。

有位先生在門口等你。他看上去相當富有。

It was a well-to-do neighborhood of large， single-family homes with big backyards。

這是一個富裕的社群，有大後院的大獨棟住宅。

Well-to-do 跟另外兩個以 well 開頭的複合形容詞意思相近，它們是 well-off 或 well off，或 well-heeled 或 well heeled，其中 well-off 對應的比較級和最高階分別是 better-off 和 best-off，例如：

Her family was very well off。

她的家庭很富裕。

Grants are

available

for less well-off families。

家庭補助金是提供給不太富裕的家庭使用的。

His family was very well heeled。

他家很有錢。

因此當表達富有的人時，還可以用 the well-to-do，the well-off 或 the well-heeled，注意此時的複合形容詞之間要有

連線，例如：

This is the part of town where the well-to-do live。

這地區住的全是鎮上的有錢人家。

It is a resort that clearly caters for the well-off。

這是一個顯然迎合富裕人群的度假勝地。

The store attracted a loyal following among the well-heeled。

這家商店在有錢人中吸引了忠實的追隨者。

還有一些比較常見且正式的表示富有的單詞是 affluent 和 prosperous 等，以及比較少用或非正式的單詞或俚語如 comfortable 和 loaded 等，例如：

affluent:

Cigarette smoking used to be commoner among affluent people。

吸菸曾經在富人中間更為普遍。

prosperous:

The place looks more prosperous than

ever

。

這地方顯得空前繁榮。

comfortable:

They‘re not millionaires， but they’re certainly very comfortable。

他們不是百萬富翁，但也很富裕。

loaded:

He inherited the family business - he must be loaded！

他繼承了家族企業，他一定很有錢！

財富再多，也只是身外之物，人不要一輩子做金錢的奴隸，有的時候也試著去做金錢的主人。
