In the Duolingo test， one part of the speaking consists of

describing a photo

。 The photo usually shows a person or people doing something， such as walking， laughing， chatting， touching， reading， holding， sitting， smiling， standing， and even smoking。

As this is a

computer-evaluated test

， nouns， preposition phrases， and adjectives play an important role in the description， which means you need to be as exact as possible in your description。

layers

’。 Just like photoshop， we have layers that we can add or take away。 The scenery photos with people in Duolingo are similar。 You will have the ‘

foreground

’， and the ‘

background

’。 By focusing on these parts of the photo， we can describe the photo methodically （

in logical order

）， however， first， begin by describing the person in detail， including their clothes， their hair， and most importantly， what they are doing。

Don‘t forget to

use colors

to describe the leaves， flowers， and the sky。

We will use the

present continuous

（現在進行時）when describing

the actions of the person

and

what they are wearing

。

eg。 He is walking/ she is sitting / They are chatting/ She is wearing。。。

In these types of photos， prepositions（介詞）and preposition phrases are very important。 For example，

“on his left side / on this right side / behind him / in front of him/ to the left is / to the right is”。

Don’t forget to

use colors

to describe hair， clothes， and objects。

Very often in these types of photos， we

are not 100% sure what is happening

， and so we can use phrases such as “

seems to be (doing sth)

” or “seems to be a （sth）”。
